DISCOVER
The spirit of discovery has always been fundamental to the mission of a great research university.
Our mission is to help make the world ever better. Addressing world problems of considerable scale and complexity demands that we pursue research broadly and to great depths. This requires preeminent minds and innovative thinkers, but it also calls for contemporary spaces and facilities where faculty members and students can collaborate across disciplines.
“Making a difference is really why we give the way we give. We hope our gifts inspire others to contribute and make the University of Rochester an even better place for education and research.”

Hyekyun Rhee, the Endowed Chair for Nursing Science at the School of Nursing, demonstrates how the Automated Device for Asthma Monitoring and Management she invented communicates with portable electronics.
Research at the School of Nursing has made asthma management easier and wearable.
Ever hear of the Innovation
World Cup Series? It’s a global competition for breakthrough technologies and solutions. Hyekyun Rhee, PhD, RN, PNP, had a big hand in creating ADAMM— the Automated Device for Asthma Monitoring and Management— the 2015–16 overall winner for
“wearable technologies.”
An unobtrusive device that can be worn like jewelry, ADAMM enables teens to monitor asthma symptoms all day. The device continuously screens breathing sounds then records, stores, and analyzes the data, which can be downloaded to an iPad or smartphone to help predict the onset of an asthma event or to adjust medication.
Rhee’s leadership in several progressive research projects is just one reason she was named the Endowed Chair for Nursing Science at the School of Nursing in September 2015.
