From the Dean

Parents want the best for their children. At the University of Rochester, that
means wanting the best education, the best resources, and the best
opportunities. This has prompted more than 7,100 parents to get involved
and make a gift to The Meliora Challenge: The Campaign for the University
of Rochester. As the chart below shows, parents’ generosity has touched
every part of the University.

Gift Distribution

$6.2M Arts, Sciences & Engineering
$3.0M Medical Center
$1.5M Eastman School of Music
$1.2M Warner School of Education
$0.5M General
Richard Feldman $0.4M Memorial Art Gallery
Dean of the College $0.3M Simon Business School

Every gift, regardless of size, allows leaders across the University to meet
critical and unexpected needs. I have been able to direct gifts made to the
Parents Fund to areas which will have an immediate impact on students’
lives. These gifts help sustain the Teaching and Learning Center, support the
study abroad program, and provide extracurricular groups such as the
University’s mock trial team with the funds needed to travel to national
competitions. Parents’ generosity has helped make the student experience
unique and meaningful.

Our University’s motto, Meliora, means “ever better.” We are enormously
grateful to those of you who have given that phrase tangible meaning. You
have helped us build better facilities; provide better resources for our faculty;
create better programs and experiences. Your participation and generosity
have helped to enhance the education for your students and for those
who follow.

And for that, I can’t thank you enough.
