True commitment takes focus, determination, and hard work. For Clarence
Onyiriuka 11, 12S (MS), it also has meant being completely selfess.

In September 2010, the senior cocaptain was poised for another great
season when he dislocated his elbow during the Courage Bowl. Based on the
advice of his doctors, Clarence was able to redshirt the season, but he didn t
leave his teammates. While rehabbing his elbow, he attended every practice

and game, using his own experience and talent to help the running backs
who replaced him.

One of the things I ve learned about myself while being a student-athlete at
Rochester is that I m capable of doing anything I set my mind to, Clarence
says. Not everyone can say that they ve gone through four years of rigorous
courses at an institution like this, let alone being involved in varsity athletics
at the same time.

While working to get his masters degree with a concentration in marketing from
the Simon School of Business he continued to play football and spent countless
hours training, competing, and studying.

Football taught me how to work with all sorts of diferent people, Clarence
adds. This helped me greatly at Simon, as so much of the work was done in

groups composed of people from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Clarences commitment to teammates, friends, and fellow scholars is further
evidence that Rochester athletes graduate with real-world skills.

I ve met a lot of great people and

formed some lifelong friendships while

playing the sport that I love and being

challenged in the classroom.
