Rochester Athletics is defned by words such

invite you to be a part of our future and As a University leader, Bob Goergen 60 has always
help launch us into a new tier of education, been a strong voice for athletics and education,
recreation, competition, and achievement. with special focus on undergraduate programs. His
support has been a catalyst for Rochester Athletics
unprecedented growth over the past few years.
Recognizing that a university needs high-quality
George VanderZwaag facilities to attract high-quality students, Rochester
Director, Athletics and Recreation Athletics launched an aggressive campaign in 1999
to renovate its 200,000-square-foot indoor athletic
facility. As chair of the Board of Trustees during that
time, Bob made a leadership gift and championed an
efort that ultimately raised $15 million in support.
In October of 2000, during the University s
Sesquicentennial Weekend, the athletic center was
named in his honor as a tribute to his generosity,
vision, and transformational leadership. The Robert
B. Goergen Athletic Center is now a River Campus
point of pride. Its renovations increased recreational
activity by 138 percent, making the Goergen Center a
hub of student life.
A successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, Bob
credits his undergraduate experience for helping him
get to where he is today, saying it played a critical
role in preparing me to address later challenges in
my life and business career.
