Nurturing Leadership

Kamila Barnes 11N (MS) says the experiences of her fellow School

of Nursing students have had a profound efect on her outlook.

Perspectives from my fellow students and faculty have infuenced
my perspectives on career paths, she said. My experience in the
[Doctorate of Nursing Practice] program has shown me that nurses

are capable of attaining leadership roles in various specialties, are
efective change agents, and have specialized skills to contribute to
improving health care outcomes.

Barnes began in 2009 as a post-baccalaureate student and has completed
a masters degree in family nurse practice. Now pursuing her

doctorate, she has focused on maternal and child health disparities,
with a concentration on teen pregnancy and parenting experiences.

A Leadership Education in Adolescent Health fellowship
at Golisano Childrens Hospital let her participate in clinical work,

research, policy advocacy, and community leadership. She works
